It was a disappointing Saturday for all three of West Norfolk’s senior footballing sides.

Downham Town threw away a two-goal lead at Walthamstow and were knocked out of the FA Trophy, while there were league defeats for both Heacham and Fakenham in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Playing in their first-ever FA Trophy tie, things were looking good for Downham at their Isthmian League North rivals after goals from Dylan Edge and Jacob White gave Dale Stokes’ side a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Dylan Edge was back on the scoresheet for Downham Town in a 3-2 FA Trophy defeat at Walthamstow yesterday.

Olu Oluwatimilehin headed the hosts back into contention two minutes after the restart and Callum Ibe drew them level in the 61st minute.

Just when it looked as though the game would finish as a draw, an own goal handed Walthamstow the most dramatic of victories in the 95th minute.

After the game, Downham Town took to X to say: “A disappointing exit in the FA Trophy. 2-0 up at half-time and in a comfortable position, missing a couple of other good chances.

“Unfortunately, some poor goals conceded saw us lose 3-2, as the hosts won it in the final minute of the game.”

Downham Town host Redbridge at the Memorial Field on Wednesday night before travelling to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.

In the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Fakenham Town suffered their first defeat of the campaign with a 3-0 reverse at Soham Town Rangers.

Andy Cunningham’s side fell behind to an Ollie Ward goal in the first half before the Greens added further goals through Lewis Jackaman and Ben Tait in the second half to wrap up a 3-0 win.

The defeat sees the Ghosts drop to second in the league table.

On Saturday, Fakenham Town host Walsham Le Willows at the Daly Group Stadium.

Heacham suffered their fourth successive league defeat, losing 2-0 at Cornard United.

Paul Hunt’s side find themselves in the bottom two of the table and on Saturday host Woodbridge Town – below the Magpies on goal difference – in a huge six-pointer at Station Road.
