A partnership involving a supporters’ group and club investors could offer new hope for financially-stricken King’s Lynn Town. The Blue and Gold Supporters Trust has written to its members to vote on a proposed link-up with Turn Sports Investments (TSI), which secured the club’s survival with a large six-figure investment early last year.It comes a few days after chairman Stephen Cleeve revealed in his programme notes that the club needs another £50,000 to see the club through to the summer.Cleeve, whose dedication to the club can’t be questioned, also stated he was prepared to walk away if a solution could be found.TSI has been quietly supporting the club financially since January 2024 and is now working on a proposal to inject further capital to help the club stabilise and prepare for the next campaign.According to a statement issued by the Trust to its members, TSI has already provided funding well beyond its original commitment after the club allegedly overspent the season’s agreed budget.Despite the overruns, TSI continued to provide support in good faith, though it has emphasised the need for improved financial discipline going forward. The statement also highlighted the breakdown of earlier efforts by the Lynn chairman to bring in new external investors — attempts that ultimately yielded no concrete outcomes. With no viable alternatives materialising, TSI is prepared to take on a temporary “guardian” role to help restructure the club and ensure its survival.Crucially, TSI has stated it does not wish to interfere with the footballing side of operations — a position welcomed by the Trust. The current management, led by Adam Lakeland, has been widely praised for keeping the team competitive despite mounting off-pitch challenges. As part of the new structure, TSI is offering the Trust the opportunity to acquire a minority shareholding in the club. The proposed deal would see the Trust invest over £95,000 — its entire fund reserve — in exchange for equity and formal representation in the club’s future governance. This would mark a major milestone for the fan-led group, aligning with its long-held goal of influencing the ownership and direction of KLTFC. Discussions remain ongoing, with final terms — including shareholding arrangements and a long-term governance model — still being negotiated. The club’s outstanding legacy debt, stemming from a Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) loan taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, also remains a key part of the restructuring process. Trust members have been asked to support the proposal in principle, with a formal vote expected in the near future. If backed, the move could usher in a new era of community-focused ownership and financial sustainability.“This is a unique opportunity to help reshape the future of King’s Lynn Town FC, with the community at the heart of its identity,” the Trust said in a statement.“We remain committed to this vision and hope our members will join us in taking this important next step.” An open meeting for Trust members may be organised in the coming weeks to address questions and discuss the proposal in greater detail. For now, all eyes remain on the negotiations behind the scenes — and whether this grassroots-driven initiative can finally secure a stable and sustainable future for the Linnets.
