Former Lynn rider secures maiden GP success

King’s Lynn favourite Robert Lambert is a Grand Prix winner for the first time – and he now has a great chance of securing second place in the 2024 World Championship.Lambert, who rode for the Stars the majority of his time in regular British racing, finally took the win he had been threatening with victory at the Danish Grand Prix in Vojens on Saturday.It was the tenth time he had reached a Final, and his fifth this year, and on this occasion he was able to convert it into the win he richly deserved.Lambert finished ahead of Bartosz Zmarzlik, although second place on the night was enough for the Polish star to clinch his fifth World title.But Lambert is now ten points clear of third-placed Fredrik Lindgren in the race for silver with one round remaining at Torun in a fortnight (September 28).He said: “It hasn’t really sunk in as yet, but it’s an incredible feeling. After the finish line, there were a few tears under my goggles. It has been a long time coming.“I have put in a lot of hard work and there has been a lot of disappointment at coming so close so often before and not getting it. “It comes as a relief to finally get it done and stop the talk going around about it. It was a hot topic about me not winning one. Now it’s finally done. “I am so happy at the moment and this trophy is going nowhere. It’s going to be sticking with me for a long time.”
