Former Lynn rider clinches runners-up berth

King’s Lynn favourite Robert Lambert is celebrating runners-up position in the 2024 FIM World Championship.Lambert has finished in the top three of the Grand Prix series for the first time to complete a sensational season which saw him take his first GP win in Vojens and also team up with Dan Bewley to clinch the FIM Speedway of Nations for Great Britain in Manchester.A medal was already confirmed before the season finale in Torun on Saturday, although with Lambert just missing out on a semi-final place in the meeting it meant there was the chance he could be pipped for silver by Swedish star Fredrik Lindgren.First or second place in the Final would have elevated Lindgren to runners-up spot overall, but in the event he was kept at the back by World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, Leon Madsen and Bewley, meaning Lambert held on to second by three points.He said: “I don’t really feel like I got the job done at all after the performance that I put in. It was a very tough night.“I couldn’t really get things going. But with my consistency throughout the season, I secured my silver medal. I am super proud and happy to be sitting here with a silver around my neck.“Even though I had a lead going into this round, there are all these emotions. Big respect to Freddie for his performance. It really showed a lot of character. He had age and experience on his side and pulled out something to really take it down to the wire. “Big respect to him and big congratulations to Bartek for such an amazing season. I am striving to be in his shoes one day. “Being second in the World feels amazing, but this is just the start of what’s to come.”The Speedway GP of Poland in Torun was also a successful event for current PSH Environmental Stars racer Jan Kvech.The Czech star scored an impressive ten points in the qualifying races, including two wins, before missing out in the first semi-final to Lindgren and Madsen. Kvech completed his debut GP campaign 15th in the overall standings, but he still has the opportunity to book a return for the 2025 campaign.He competes in Friday’s GP Challenge on home territory in Pardubice with the top four riders from a strong line-up qualifying for next year’s full series.
