Two-goal Chloe Gravett was the matchwinner as Fakenham Ladies fought off a second-half fightback from King’s Lynn Town Ladies to secure a 3-2 win in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Plate. After being 2-0 up, the battling Linnets pulled two goals back through Katie Ward and Holly Williams before Gravett struck at the death to break Lynn hearts.Holly Davies also found the back of the net for the Ghosts whose reward is a trip to Biggleswade United in the last eight. After the game Linnets boss Alec Marshall said: “I think today we can feel disappointed with the result but at the same time, I’m delighted.”Today we showed that we can battle, fight and dig in deep. We addressed a few areas at half-time and we came out a different team in the second half.“Yes, we can go on about the penalty miss, but we shouldn’t be relying on scoring from set plays to get us results. Their third goal I thought was offside, but when luck isn’t going your way, these things happen.”We haven’t had much to shout and cheer about but the fight and battle we showed today, with the injuries we have and some more we picked up today, I cannot fault.”The support from the fans was incredible and the fans and players with the banner of myself was emotional but fair play to Fakenham for a great game today,”We have a break now, which means we can focus on the injuries and prep well for our next fixture.”Lynn missed an early penalty and Fakenham took momentum from the miss to lead 1-0 at half-time.The visitors came out in the second half and after a couple of changes in personnel and formation, they started to dictate the tempo of the game.Fakenham then broke away and scored a second, which surely wrapped the game up.But Lynn had other ideas, a goal from Ward sparked Lynn into life before a 30-yard free-kick from Williams drew Alec Marshall’s side level. The momentum was now with the Linnets but Fakenham broke away on the counter to add a third goal five minutes from time to deny a brave Lynn outfit a chance of taking the tie to extra-time.PoM: Kamarla Lawson.
