The curtain comes down on the 2024 BriSCA stock car season as far as King’s Lynn is concerned tomorrow (Saturday, 5pm) with an F1 and F2 double and a chance to shine for locals Marcus Gilbert, Ryan Leeks and Ben Cole. It’s a massive evening for both formulas, with the F1 stock cars racing in the final of stage two of the National Points and the F2 class competing in one of their biggest meetings of the year – the World of Shale Championship. The World of Shale has at least 85 cars booked in for action, with the entry also including 17 drivers from mainland Europe looking to claim one of the biggest titles in the sport.UK drivers enter this race through qualifying rounds. The top 20 points scorers are seeded along with 12 drivers from Europe. Drivers who finish in positions 21-60 contest a last-chance race from where six will advance to try their chance from the back of the grid. This year will also have an additional driver at the back with defending champion Dave Polley, having just raced F1 stock cars this year, making his 2024 F2 UK debut. There are no local drivers seeded on the grid but three will be looking to progress from the last chance in Gilbert, Leeks and Cole. Scott Aldridge and Beth Usher will also be in the support heat. The National Points Championship was revamped this season with the top-16 points scorers in September battling it out over the last 12 meetings, with the series split into three stages. The first saw eight drivers eliminated from the competition and a further two will miss out on Saturday.A final win last week at Skegness saw Norfolk’s Matt Newson qualify for the next stage, while defending champion Tom Harris, along with Frankie Wainman and Lee Fairhurst, has all-but-sealed a spot in the next round leaving Polley, Jelle Tesselaar, Craig Finnikin and Joe Booth to fight it out for two places.
