Downham Town boosted their Thurlow title hopes with a huge win on their travels this afternoon while Fakenham Town’s hopes faltered with a narrow defeat.Dale Stokes’ Downham side recorded a fourth victory on the bounce in a big clash at their hosts who were fourth in the table and unbeaten in six coming into the game.Dylan Edge scored twice in the six-pointer and Jake Miller scored the other with James Lee replying for the hosts. The win lifts Downham Town to second in the league standings – three points leaders Thetford Town – with a game in hand.Fakenham, meanwhile, were narrowly beaten 1-0 during their visit to Kirkley and Pakefield. The Ghosts went into the game without the services of top scorer Jake Watts, who injured his hamstring in the 1-0 League Cup Challenge defeat at Ely City in midweek.Kaiden Goldspink scored the only goal of the game after 25 minutes in Suffolk and the host outfit could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty in injury time as Alex Walpole’s team dropped a place to third in the table. In the First Division North, basement boys Swaffham Town were on the receiving end of an 8-0 hammering at Holbeach United where Callum Wright scored his first senior hat-trick for the Tigers. Next weekend, Downham Town entertain Harleston Town at the Memorial Field while Heacham are without a game.Heacham – without a fixture this afternoon – return to action with a home game against Cornard. In the First Division Division, Swaffham Town welcome Gorleston Reserves to the Uncle Luke’s Stadium.
