Downham Town are determined to put last season’s play-off heartache firmly behind them – by going one step further and winning promotion this term.
The SCL Memorial Field outfit suffered agony against Harleston Town in the final last year.
But the Thurlow Nunn First Division North runners-up – who missed out on winning the title to Heacham on the final day of this season – have a chance to make amends in 2023.
Downham host Whittlesey Athletic tomorrow night (7.45pm) with the winners meeting either Framlingham Town or Harwich and Parkeston – who lock horns this evening – in Saturday’s final.
Looking ahead to the game, joint Downham boss Craig Dickson said: “We experienced the heartbreak of the playoffs last season and hopefully we can come out on the right side of the promotion race this time around.
“I know how hard the boys have worked and have seen the desire by the team to get us back into the title race.
“If we maintain that mentality through the play-offs hopefully the bit of luck we need will be waiting for us.
“This is a chance to take this club to step 5 for the first time in its history is something we could only dream of when Dale (Stokes) and I started this journey and to be able to achieve this with a group of friends would be something I’d cherish for the rest of my life.”
