Downham Stow claimed the scalp of Great Witchingham in the softball plate final after a strong win over Fakenham last week.

Winning the toss, Downham chose to field first.

From the outset, Downham’s fielding was tight and disciplined.

Despite Great Witchingham managing a few boundaries, Downham kept the pressure on and took six wickets, reducing their score by 30 runs.

Great Witchingham finished on 266.

In reply, Downham started with the young and energetic pairing of Molly Taylor and Evie Grief, who got the scoreboard ticking.

Eliza McDonald and Pollyanna Esse followed with a steady partnership, adding valuable runs without losing a wicket.

Esther Broad and Freya Matthews then faced some tight bowling but kept the total moving.

With 265 on the board heading into the final five overs, Andrea Hoskins and Atlanta Stevenson batted with focus and composure, securing the win for Downham Stow with a total of 302.

It was a well-mannered game and a pleasure to play in and watch. Thanks to the spectators for their support on the boundary.

The player of the Match votes were deservedly shared between Esther Broad and Pollyanna Esse for their excellent bowling, taking six wickets between them.
