Downham maintained their fine start to the new season with a comfortable 3-0 success in their first home game in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

First-half goals from Magic Smalls and James Moore put the hosts in control against Ely City before Eoin McQuaid sealed the three points against the Robins with a goal in stoppage time

Downham, who next entertain Sheringham on Wednesday night, have won four of their opening five games in the top flight and sit third in the table behind Lakenheath and Thetford.

After the game, the club Tweeted: “A well-deserved maximum points today, beating our visitors 3-0.

“Great first half where we controlled proceedings and created some glorious chances.

“Below par next 45 as we coasted too often in second gear, but got the job done.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Heacham were left to rue a number of missed chances in a goalless home draw against Hadleigh United.

The home side carved out the better openings at the Heacham Sports Field, but found visiting goalkeeper Nick Punter in inspired form between the posts.

Punter pulled off a number of fine stops to thwart home dangerman Fletcher Toll and Luke Gray in a game that saw Royce Rawlings limp off with an ankle injury during the second half.

In the First Division North, Swaffham Town slumped to a 4-2 defeat at home to Needham U23s.
