Dersingham-based racer Phil Wright secured a hard-fought podium at the weekend as The Racing Hondas Championship took centre stage at the Go Japan Show in Kent.

Wright’s Saturday began with frustration when a faulty fuel pump switch curtailed his qualifying session after just two laps, leaving his Honda Civic starting only sixth on the grid for race one.

Undeterred, Wright made a lightning getaway, climbing to fourth by the opening corner. He chased down the No. 24 car of Knight while fending off heavy pressure from Kiff in the No. 97.

The safety car was deployed on lap four after a rival ended up in the gravel, and with just minutes left, the race was red-flagged following an incident further down the field. Wright was classified fourth at the flag.

Back in the paddock, Wright reported a lack of front-end grip, and a fault was discovered in the rear suspension. The team worked quickly to make repairs before race two.

A reverse grid draw put Wright on the front row in second. Another sharp start almost saw him seize the lead, but Knight dived inside pole-sitter Kiff at the first corner, triggering contact that sent Kiff spinning into the gravel.

Wright avoided the chaos and slotted into second behind Knight as the safety car returned.

With nine minutes remaining, the race resumed and Wright came under pressure from championship leader Will Self in the No. 34 car.

Showing resilience and composure, the Dersingham driver defended superbly to secure second place and a spot on the podium.

Wright returns to action on Sunday, September 27, at Knockhill in Scotland.

All races are streamed live on YouTube via Racing Hondas.

Wright is backed by Luke Loades of Rounce and Evans Property Management, along with PBS Brakes, Selina Automotive, AllSigns, Vertex Architecture, One Day Motorsport, Van Works and Darren Heffer Builders.
