Volunteers are being sought to help at sessions which are aimed at making sailing accessible to all.Snettisham Beach Sailing Club has an accessible sailing programme – offering sailing opportunities for those with physical and learning difficulties and those struggling with their mental health. It could be simply sailing on a lake, an introduction to sailing, or the beginning of a new adventure learning to become an independent sailor.A club spokesperson said: “We are still looking for volunteers to join the accessible sailing crew – the more people who volunteer the easier it gets for us to operate.“You don’t need to be a sailor – we have a variety of roles including meet and greet, catering, movement assistance, pontoon helpers, hoist operators, competent helms and support boat drivers (ideally PB2 qualified). The full range of volunteer roles can be found at https://www.snetbeach.co.uk/role/role-descriptions.” The aim is for everyone, clients and volunteers, to have an enjoyable social afternoon. Disability awareness training is offered to all volunteers who will need to be DBS checked. There will also be training on offer for specialist roles, such as hoist operation.A free training day will take place on Friday, April 11 at 10am where topics will include: Why accessible sailing at Snettisham? (offers and aims), getting to know our sailors, practical activity, safeguarding, hoist induction training, rigging and familiarisation of the boats and equipment and sailing.
