King’s Lynn Town 0 Farsley Celtic 2King’s Lynn Town missed the chance to go top of the National League North table as they slumped to their third home defeat of the season. On an evening where both Scunthorpe and Chorley suffered surprise losses, Adam Lakeland’s side were unable to take full advantage. For once, Lynn were wasteful in front of the goal and they were undone by two counterattacks from the visitors on a disappointing evening in front of their home faithful. The King’s Lynn side showed one change from Saturday as Theo Williams was handed his first start for the suspended Cody Johnson.Striker Jonny Margetts and midfielder Tommy Hughes were both named on the bench while Josh Hmami and Freddie Sass remained sidelined through injury.Williams found a pocket of space and forced Wooster to save with his legs in the fifth minute as Lynn were quick out of the blocks. Two minutes later, Gold Omotayo teed to Josh McCammon who drilled his effort straight into the arms of the visiting goalkeeper. Farsley Celtic’ began to grow into the game and Kyle Callan McFadden pulled off great blocks to deny Danny Greenfield and Manny Mampala in quick succession.Lynn should have taken the lead 15 minutes before the break but Omotayo headed Dylan Crowe’s cross over the woodwork. The breakthrough came in the 34th minute but at the other end of the pitch as Stephenson wiggled his way into the box before firing under the body of the pitch. Lynn were forced into their first change five minutes before the interval as Sam Walker limped off to be replaced by Tommy Hughes.Omotayo’s powerful header from a Finlay Barnes corner was palmed away by Wooster as the hosts threatened an immediate response. But they were hit by a real sucker punch on the stroke of half-time as Farsley Celtic doubled their advantage.Substitute Hughes was robbed of possession by Robbie Fox who forced Jones into a fine save low to his left before Mampala gobbled up the follow-up. Such was Lynn’s predicament, Margetts was introduced into the action at the start of the second half and within two minutes he missed the opportunity to make an instant impact as he dragged Ross Crane’s shot wide of the target.Farsley went straight up the other end and Cole Hyde skied an effort over the woodwork from five yards out.It was then the turn of Crane to blaze over the bar as another chance went begging for the hosts. The game swung from one end to the other and the left arm of Jones kept his side in the game as he denied the dangerous Mampala his hat-trick. Wooster thwarted Barnes with his legs as the chances continued to come and go for the hosts.Lynn threw Josh Coulson up front for the final few minutes but failed to produce any fireworks of their own as they failed to beat Farsley Celtic at home for a third successive season.King’s Lynn Town: Jones, Crowe (Ronan 84), McFadden, Wilson, Taylor, Walker (Hughes 40), McCammon, Barnes, Crane (Coulson 84), Williams (Margetts 46), Omotayo.
