Downham Stow suffered a five-wicket loss to Bury St Edmunds in the East Anglian Premier Division on Saturday.
On a hot day at Stow Hall, Downham Stow were asked to bat first on a good pitch. A strong opening partnership between De Lucchi (31) and Fin Wilcox (40) set the foundation.
Player-of-the-match Ben Wilcox pressed the innings on with a well-made 75. He was ably supported by brother Arthur, who made 48 before being adjudged harshly leg before.
That made the close of the innings difficult for the home side as they reached 274-7 off 64 overs, probably around 25 runs light of the desired target.
Brett Stolworthy (2-78) again made an early breakthrough as he had Justin Bishop caught at slip by Fairey. He picked up a second to leave the game in the balance but a brilliant partnership from Bury of 177 for the third wicket swayed the game in their favour.
Sachindu Colombage (2-63) was rewarded with a couple of wickets for his toils but it wasn’t enough to prevent Bury getting over the line as Harry Gallian’s 99 not out ensured his side got over the line. They reached 275-5 in 54.5 overs.
