Round two of the Norfolk Sportshall League took place in Lynn, with 20 juniors taking part.

With West Norfolk fielding a full team of U11 and U13 boys, team spirit was high on the day.

The U11 boys performed well again, finishing third overall. The boys changed around events from the previous meeting so they could experience all of the available events.

Matas Petreikis continued his winning streak with a first in the hurdles. James Watts and Jacob Dale both performed well in the two-lap, Dale with a PB and Watts on his debut, with Samuel Howard and Liam Allitt taking the four-lap run in their stride for good finish positions. Howard also finished second in the vertical jump.

Allitt was also taking part in his first sportshall and did well to master the tricky triple jump. Ollie Anderson debuted in chest push. The team of Dale, Petreikis, Howard and Anderson ran brilliantly for third in the flat relay.

The U11 girls again consisted of the hardy Lauren Lawrence and Sofia Gilboy. Both girls ran brilliantly in the two-lap, with Lawrence also taking on the four-lap and holding her own despite being a lot younger than her competitors. Gilboy had a great finish in the 2 lap hurdles and a convincing win and PB in the vertical jump of 42cm.

The U13 boys finished fourth on the day despite injuries on the team, and against much larger clubs. Newcomers Harry Buckley, Miller Crane and Henry Frary all performed brilliantly in their events, Buckley debuting in the triple jump and showing his speed on the track in the relay. Frary ran both two-lap and four- lap with solid performances and a great debut in the shot.

Miller also took on the four-lap and shot as well as the standing jump. Aidan Howard was still high in the long and vertical jump placing despite injury. Wilf Gosnell got a big PB in the speedbounce and scored well on the vertical jump as well as being in both relays. Luke Anderson placed high in the two-lap and triple jump and was second in the gruelling six-lap. The relay teams performed well in some exciting races on the day.

The U13 girls were reduced to three on the day, with Laila Chapman, Katie Cawson and Myley Gilboy finishing in a very respectable fifth even without covering all events. Katie Gilboy and Chapman both took part in the two-lap with Myley Gilboy also finishing fourth in the four-lap with Cawson not far behind. Chapman also finished high in the six-lap. Katie performed well in the long jump and shot, with a PB of 6.80 and fourth with Myley Gilboy throwing well on her debut. Chapman scored well in her first triple jump. The girls completed the day with the flat relay.

In the U15s, Charlie Broad and Oliver Gayton represented the boys with Bec Johnson for the girls. It was a close-run battle at the top of the U15 boys table again, with Broad finishing in second, just two points off first. Oliver Gayton improved on his score from round one with another big jump and a huge PB of over a metre in the shot. Johnson again finished in second place performing brilliantly across all six events, her best being first place in the jump with second in both the two- and four-lap.

The final league match takes place in December with the individual county championships in January.

On Saturday, four club members took part in the Eastern Athletics Association Cross Country Championships. Given the recent weather, the course was certainly a ‘proper’ cross country, with knee-high water in long stretches for the athletes to run through. Full results were unavailable at the time of going to press but there were amazing top ten finishes from the juniors, Thomas Murray in U13 and Evie Clayton in the U15. Ben Collison and Chris Elmer represented the seniors, with both finishing in equally impressive positions.

The club is also pleased to announce that Ed Murray, Thomas Murray and Evie Clayton will be representing Norfolk on December 9 in the Inter-Counties Championships.
