Athletics Norfolk, along with help from West Norfolk Athletic Club put on an Open indoor athletics event in The Barn at Alive Lynnsport last weekend. This event allowed athletes to put some of their hard winter training into practice, readying themselves for the build-up to some of the indoor championship events to take place in the coming months.Once again there were some top performances by West Norfolk athletes.Under-13 athlete Matas Petreikis took part in three events. He recorded 4.30m in the long jump, had a 5.36m put in the shot, and set 1.30m in the high jump. He was first in his age group in these events.Sofia Gilboy, also a U13, had a 5.85m shot put and with it a new personal best, a 2.75m leap in the long jump, and was second in both events in her age group.Under-15 Elly Jackson had a 1.35m clearance to equal her best in the high jump, and a 7.27m leap in the triple jump and she was first in both events in her age group. Myley Gilboy, another U15, had a 5.36m put in the shot. Under-17 athlete Isla Jackson had a 9.84m leap in the triple jump and finished first in her age group.Under-20 athlete Alfie Bone was first in his age group with a 1.60m high jump.Sen/F20 athlete Cameron Ross was first in the category for the long jump with a 4.33m leap. This was a really useful event and well-supported. Thanks go out to all the officials, volunteers, parents, and athletes who take part.Lots more great performances to come over the next few months for sure.
