Athletes from West Norfolk AC competed in a combined team to take on round three of the East Anglian Athletics League in Peterborough.
The WNAC athletes were joined by Dereham and North Norfolk and put in a valiant performance across all age groups – from under-11s through to seniors.
Cambridge & Coleridge claimed top spot while the West Norfolk team finished in sixth place.
With strong performances throughout the season, West Norfolk athletes are hopeful they have done enough to book their spot at the grand final, which takes place in September.
There were numerous highlights across the age categories.
The under-13 boys’ team finished fourth, powered by some standout performances.
Matas Petreikis won both the 75m hurdles (13.4secs) and high jump (1.40m) and was third in the long jump (4.10).
Rhys Howard was third in the B string long jump (3.08), third in the discus (13.32) and second in the javelin (12.39). James Watts ran 5mins 2.3secs to finish second in the 1,500m.
In the under-15s boys, twins Benjamin and Samuel Green ran identical personal bests of 13.5 in the 100m, placing fifth and fourth in the A and B strings.
Luke Anderson ran a personal best of 39.0 in the 300m for second and was placed third in the 200m A string with 25.3.
Aiden Howard delivered three personal bests, in the long jump (4.28, 3rd), discus (18.74, 3rd) and javelin (19.05, 5th).
Wilf Gosnell was second in the B string discus with a personal best of 14.69, fourth in the long jump (3.15) and fourth in the javelin (16.77).
The boys’ 4x100m relay team placed third.
In the under-13 girls, Isla Cartwright impressed with a first in the high jump (1.30) while Sofia Gilboy dominated the shot put with a throw of 6.42 securing her top spot.
Standouts in the under-15 girls included Myley Gilboy’s throw of 7.51 in the shot put before having to withdraw from her sprint events due to a muscle pull.
Imogen O’Connor clocked a personal best of 31.6 in the 200m and ran 15.4 in the 100m. Lauren Crisp also ran the sprint races (14.6, 100m and 30.4, 200m).
Casey Ward ran a superb personal best of 2:38.6 in the 800m.
Darcy Fowler delivered two personal bests. She was second with 5.32 in the B string shot put and threw 13.82 with the javelin. Saffron Howell was third in the long jump (3.96) and ran a personal best of 14.5 in the 100m.
Sofia Mackeviciute won the B string long jump with 3.87, was third in the discus with a personal best of 15.48 and placed fifth in the A string shot put (6.88).
In the under-17 women, Anya Faithorn won the javelin (22.90), was placed second in the shot put (8.11) and clocked 14.1 to take second in the 100m B string.
Isla Jackson won the triple jump with a leap of 10.16.
Rebecca Johnson missed the hurdles due to injury but ran 13.0 for fourth place in the 100m. She also threw 7.51 in the shot.
Evie Clayton ran a personal best of 2:40.2 in the 800m. Beatrice Green was second in the 800m A string with 2:28.8. Olivia Allen ran 5:50.6 to finish third in the 1,500m.
The senior women and under-20s were combined.
Hannah Greenhalgh claimed second in the 400m (61.8) and was fourth in the 200m (28.6).
Evie Goldring ran a strong debut, placing third in the 800m (2:40.3). Emma Dewdney ran 15.8 in the 100m.
Jen Gosnell took part in five field events, competing in the long jump (3.09, 4th), discus (14.78), javelin (15.09), hammer (13.59) and the shot (5.54).
Carole Preston supported in the throws with 12.50 in the discus B string for fourth, 9.62 in the javelin and 5.07 in the shot.
Thomas Green competed in the under-17s, running 12.3 in the 100m and 25.9 in the 200m. Flynn Angell took third in the 800m on his debut with a time of 2:39.9.
Ethan Ward produced two personal bests, 25.76 for fourth in the javelin and 4:30.8 in the 1,500m. Cameron Ross jumped 4.15 in the senior men’s long jump.
Hanley Angell ran a personal best of 60.1 for fifth in the 400m and posted 2:25.5 in the 800m A string. Michael Protheroe ran the 800m B string in 3:14.6.
Adam Howard threw 28.47 in the javelin, 18.55 in the hammer for a personal best, 6.94 in the shot put and 18.98 in the discus.
Ben Collison threw 13.50 in the javelin B string, 4.95 in the shot and 13.11 in the discus.
Though not included in the team points, the under-11s gained vital experience in full competition.
Jessica Watts leaped 2.24 in the long jump, ran 14.3 in the 80m and also competed over 600m, in 2:13.3 for a personal best.
Holly Cartwright competed in the same events, with 3.58 in the long jump, 12.5 for 80m and 2:08.4 over 600m. Libby Crisp clocked 12.8 in the 80m and 2:11.2 for 600m.
There were personal bests for Dana Bishop in her 600m race, with 2:22.1 and also the shot put (4.71) – just 7cm from the club record.
Amelie O’Connor timed 15.1 over 80m and ran the 600m in 2:47.7. Casper Fowler competed in the shot put (4.18), long jump (3.13) and 80m (14.4).
