West Norfolk’s champion kart racer Jenson Sayell was back in action at the Hunts Kart Racing Club championship at Kimbolton at the weekend.Having won the 2024 Super One Intermax Championship on his last outing, Saturday’s practice went well for the Marshland St James driver but heavy rain overnight made tyre choice critical for Sunday’s Heat One.With random grids for the heat races, the youngster was drawn third on the grid and having opted for wet tyres held on to finish third despite the tricky damp conditions. With the track dry, he started tenth in Heat Two. He was held wide on the start dropping to 14th but clawed his way back up to finish sixth.Drawn sixth on the grid for Heat Three, Sayell made a good start and was up to fourth on lap one and into third on lap three. Having moved into second on lap eight he was hit hard from behind sending him wide dropping him to fourth.Guest formula Mini Tyro had joined the Intermax races at the back but were significantly slower meaning the Intermax karts were lapping them.Sayell closed the gap onto the back of second and third but met one of the Tyros at the wrong moment delaying him and had to settle for fourth. However, he was promoted to third after post-race penalties. The heat results qualified Sayell third on the grid for the trophy final. He held third on the start and moved into second on lap three, resisting pressure from the third and fourth-place karts throughout the race to take a well-earned runner-up spot on the podium.Having gone into the meeting fourth in the championship Sayell has moved into third overall with three rounds to go. Sayell also received good news this week with a new local sponsor for the rest of this season and 2025.New business Sun Lounge tanning salon in Terrington St Clement has joined other local companies on the youngster’s karting journey after following him online. “I am so excited to be able to support Jenson’s karting journey, he is a talented young man,” said Rebecca Eke.Dad Rob was impressed with his son’s performance on Sunday, saying: “Jenson had some great results at the weekend in tricky conditions and didn’t always get the result he deserved. “We are really pleased to have Sun Lounge support Jenson and wish Rebecca (Eke) well in her new business.”Sayell thanks all his sponsors especially local companies JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean, Professional Aesthetic Enhancements Kings Lynn and Sun Lounge. His next outing is to collect his CKC Intermax runner-up (vice-champion) trophy at the 2024 The Kart Championship Awards later this month before returning to Kimbolton for Round Eight.
