Alfie nets opening-game treble in convincing win for Lynn team

Under-17 rink hockey players from Lynn were in fine goalscoring form in their final tournament of the season.

Lynn’s young-guns found the back of the net 13 times in three games at Letchworth as they completed a busy campaign on the rink.

Lynn’s first game came against host outfit Letchworth Whites.

In a strong start to the tournament, goals from Alfie Poppy (2) and Billy Davey put Lynn 3-0 up going into the interval.

Poppy went on to complete his hat-trick after the restart while Taylor McAree and Marie Lee were also among the goals as Lynn eventually ran out convincing 7-1 winners,

Lynn’s second outing was against a very good ECU Blue side.

A double from McAree put the side in front at one stage, but at half-time they found themselves 3-2 down.

Tiredness began to creep into Lynn’s play in the second half and Davey was shown a blue card as ECU stepped up the pressure.

Harrison Belham saved a penalty shot and made a string of other fine saves as a well-drilled ECU continued to find the back of the net.

Lynn had a few more attempts on goal but were unsuccessful in scoring again as ECU Blue ran out 9-2 winners at full time.

The final game of the day was against Manchester. The last time these teams met it was a very close fought contest and this game proved no different.

Lynn had a very strong start with both Cameron Fraser and McAree scoring in the first minute to put them 2-0 up and on a high.

The game continued to ebb-and-flow with both teams tired and fighting for the win.

McAree found the net again along with Ruby Fraser.

A mishap during a tackle saw Poppy suffer an eye injury and was forced to come off so he could be treated.

An entertaining affair to end the afternoon finished 4-4.

Thanks goes to coach Craig Lee and sponsors UK Nitrates.
