In the MNYL under-12 girls league, the top two met as second-placed Terrington hosted leaders Gaywood. It was always likely to be a tight affair, and the girls did not disappoint.Terrington edged ahead within the opening 10 minutes when Keelee Wright poked home a striker’s finish. Both goalkeepers were in outstanding form throughout, keeping all further attacking efforts at bay.Despite colossal efforts by both sides in an end-to-end encounter, it was the home side that came away with the vital 1-0 win. With the season having been weather-hit at times there is still plenty to be playedfor at the top of the table, but Terrington will be delighted with their day’s work in moving within five points of Gaywood with three games in hand. The other Under 12 fixture saw Necton travel to Watlington, with a hint of trepidation having been on the wrong end of a 10-0 thumping the last time they made the trip.It was a much closer contest this time around though, in a really enjoyable match.Watlington eventually took the lead late in the first half, when Lacey Dye reacted to turn home after Maddie Emmerson had saved a penalty, and the initial rebound in the Necton goal. The game remained in the balance until 10 minutes before the end when Tia Rowland showed her quality to stroke in a controlled first-time effort at the back post. The game finished 2-0 to Watlington. In the Under-14 competition, the game of the day mirrored their younger counterparts with Terrington hosting Gaywood. It was another super close one, again displaying some of the great competition between the girls’ sides this season.Terrington will feel that their play overall maybe should have resulted in the points, but special mention must again go to Gaywood’s goalkeeper who put in a player-of-the-match performance.Neila Anderson, for Gaywood, and Terrington’s Sophie Codrington were the only scorers on the day though, as the two sides couldn’t be separated on the scoreboard and it finished 1-1.Terrington’s star on the day was Harriett Chisham who was a rock at the back. The final result of the day saw league leaders Weeting Saxon complete a convincing 11-0 victory at home to Heacham.
