Road and trail were the surfaces of choice for Ryston Runners over the past week.
Last weekend saw several of the club’s ultra enthusiasts in action at Sandringham in the Run Sandringham 24 event. Jake Whitehouse completed the furthest distance, notching up 20 five-mile laps and on his feet for 23:46.08 and placing ninth overall. Andy Williamson, in 16th, covered 18 laps in 23:23.35, and Ben Elmer’s 20th place came by doing 17 laps and spending 20:56.31 afoot.
Glenn Perkins’ 12 laps earned him 75th place and took him 21:45.09, and Richard Grant covered ten laps in 13:32.12 for 131st. Claire Whitehouse, in 97th, completed seven laps in 10:41.47. Lindsey Clare ran four laps as part of a team of six runners, covering 20 miles.
The Great Yarmouth Half Marathon on Sunday saw two Ryston athletes in the medals as the event also featured the Norfolk County Championships, as well as being part of the Sportlink Grand Prix series.
Jane Ashby continued her domination of the Norfolk F75 running scene, winning her category with 1:57.15 (92% AG) in 205th place overall. Eamonn McCusker ran 2:07.00 for third place in the M70 category, and took home Norfolk Silver (258th overall). Separating these two, in 250th, was Anna Smith, 12th F45, who ran 2:05.55.
The action got under way last Wednesday evening at Nene Park in Peterborough.
Freddie Hubbard and Isaac Western ran the 3k race, with Hubbard placing seventh and second Under-11 B in 11min15sec with Western 47th and 12th under-11 B in 15.58.
The 5k race saw Dylan Whitehouse place 17th and second under-17 in 16.52 while Daniel Barnes ran a personal best of 17.18 for 25th place.
Chris Chaplin’s 17.56 saw him home in 43rd, Chris Cann finished 193rd in 21.55, and Claire Whitehouse was 323rd with 29.11.
The Dinosaur Dash at Roarr! Great Witchingham saw Hubbard and Western in action again, this time over 2.5k. Hubbard was second U13B in 9.30 and Western was 34th in 13.22.
The Senior/Masters 5k race saw four Ryston women head home their respective categories.
Ruth Chadwick won the F55 in 63rd overall with 24.23, Linda Marshall took the F60 and was 72nd overall with 25.01, Pauline Sparrow led F70 category in 109th overall with 28.11 and Lynne Howlett won the F65 and was 124th overall in 28.51.
Christopher Cann was in action again, running a consistent 21.50 for 27th place and 11th SM. The Price family made their mark with Darren Price eighth M40/61st with 24.17, Riley 13th JM/75th with 25.52 and Claire 25th SF/150th with 29.58. Christopher Brockbank was 112th/32nd SM with 28.28.
