A romp through some of the most memorable & enjoyable pieces from this acclaimed duo’s operettas.
Saturday 7th – 2:30pm & 7:30pm
Sundat 8th – 2:30pm
The lyrics and music from this exceptionally talented pair have rung down the decades since 1875 – over 150 years.
Gilbert’s comic words still make audiences laugh, and Sullivan’s melodies continue to enchant.
Undoubtedly, nostalgia plays a large part in this popularity; the operettas seem to breathe the innocence, the naivety and the fun of a long-vanished age.
Even when they were written, there was a strong element of pure escapism with the fantastic topsy-turvy settings and plots, which could still apply today.
To brighten the dull days of February WNG&SS brings you extracts from seven of the operettas:
- The Sorcerer
- Iolanthe
- Princess Ida
- Yeomen of the Guard
- HMS Pinafore
- The Pirates of Penzance
- The Gondoliers
This production makes for a good outing for both young and old in both the unusual setting of the Methodist Church in King’s Lynn and the more orthodox stage in Downham Market Town Hall.
Tickets on sale now, priced at £10.
