Rebecca Johnson made an explosive start to the new season at the first Athletics Norfolk outdoor track and field open meeting at the weekend.For some it was the first opportunity for athletes who have trained all winter and were yet to put themselves to the test and for others a chance to carry on the good results from the indoor season and see what they could do in the outdoor arena.Once again, West Norfolk athletes turned out in force and did not disappoint, setting a high standard for the coming season.Highly talented under-17 athlete Johnson followed a very successful indoor season by finishing first in the 80m hurdles in a fabulous time of 11.74sec.This was a debut run over this distance, setting a PB and the second fastest in the UK for the age group so far.The KES Academy youngster also finished first in the 100m in a time of 12.87sec.Under-15 Luke Anderson smashed two personal best performances. He finished first in the 200m with a 25.68m, and first in the 100m round two in 12.49sec. Myley Gilboy (U15) finished first in the 100m in round one in 13.99sec and round two in 14.19sec, both times beat Gilboy’s previous best over 100m. She also finished second in the 200m in 29.78sec and a PB. Casey Ward (U15) finished first in 800m in 2m45.86sec on her debut run and a new PB.Under-13 Matas Petreikis finished first in the 75m hurdles in 13.71sec and first in the 100m round one in 14.60sec, both performances were personal bests. Matas also finished fourth in the long jump 2.85m.James Watts (U13) was first in the 1500m in 4m57.92sec a debut run and new PB, and Sofia Gilboy (U13) finished seventh with a marvellous 3.0m leap and a PB. Jessica Watts (U11) finished eighth in the 600m 2m16.0sec in a new personal best run, while William Ward finished seventh in the 600m in 2m10.11sec.Under 15’s athlete Wilf Gosnell finished second in the discus with a 12.25m throw, and Ethan Ward (U17) finished fourth in the 1500m in 4m33.85sec, setting a new personal best. Edward Murray (U20) finished seventh in the 3000m in 9m25.23sec with a P,B and Thomas O’Neill finished second in the javelin with a 36.80m, 100m round two, first in 12.29sec.Senior T20/F20 athlete Cameron Ross finished first in the long jump with a 4.39m leap, first in the 200m in 28.91sec and first in the 100m round one in 13.80sec.Senior W40 Jen Gosnell finished second in the discus with a 16.48m throw, while M45 athlete Adam Howard was first in the discus with a 19.52m throw and second in the javelin 31.16m.
