King’s Lynn Youth Boxing Club has been highly active and members have been doing very well so far this season.Alex Kelly, Albie Mallet, Nathaniel Szelk, Vadim Kazocs and Shanna Hefferman have all stepped into the ring on shows during recent weeks.Kelly was the first fighter in action, boxing home representative Roman Presling on a show at Sudbury. The Lynn youngster showed great feet and fast hands against his opponent, dominating the bout from start to finish.Coaches Richard Girdlestone and Mel Payne were delighted with Alex’s performance and the future looks good. Two fighters were in action on a show at DownhamMallet, who has a bright future ahead of him, was paired up against William Buckley from All Saints Boxing Club in Cambridge. In what was his first scoring contest, Mallett showed some fast hands and connected with several good shots. Mallet always appeared to have a little extra up his sleeve and remained calm and listened well to the advice given to him. Some fine defensive work saw him declared the overall winner.Next up was Szelk in a skills bout against Otto Baxter. Szelk showed great technique with his hand speed and footwork as all of his work paid off in from of coaches Girdlestone and Ryan Finch. There was a welcome return to the ring following a break for Kazocs, who met Ned Scully on a show at March Boxing Club. Despite some very short notice, Kozocs did himself and the club proud in a tough contest to pick up a unanimous decision. Finally, Hefferman climbed onto the canvas for her first-ever bout against Billie Jo from Boston Boxing Club. The Lynn fighter showed great courage despite losing the contest.”Shanna hasn’t been in the sport long, but she’s a quick learner, said coach Girdlestone.”She may have lost this contest, but in this game you learn all the time you enter the ring.”
