Arran sets the parkrun pace

Arran Reeve was first home with a new personal best at the King’s Lynn parkrun.He completed the 5k course in 16min26sec with Dylan Whitehouse second (17.16) and Will Larkin third (17.34) – both also new bests. It was a day for raising the bar – 52 PBs were set.The leading JW11-14 runner last weekend was Libby Sibthorp, who stopped the clock in 20.50, while Jane Ashby was the top age-graded runner with 96.79 per cent in a field of 361.Age grades are the ratio of a personal finish time against the world record for your sex and age, expressed as a percentage. This shows Jane’s efforts to be up there with the very best.Those reaching milestones on a spring-like morning included Rowena Owen, who was taking part in her 50th event, Dan Read reached 100 runs, Lauren Lawrence is now on 150 and dedicated Shane Barker moved up to 300 appearances.The crowd included 15 first timers to parkrun together with 21 visitors, all of whom were very welcome.A big shoutout went to the 29 volunteers who once again did a great job for everyone taking part. Volunteering is an integral part of parkrun, it’s what makes it free to participate and it couldn’t take place without individuals signing up to volunteer on a regular basis.This Saturday, in recognition of International Women’s Day, there will be a women’s ‘volunteer takeover’ led by The King’s Lynn Soroptimists International, whose mission is to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities. All are welcome to come along to mark the occasion.
