King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland says he is confident of bringing in reinforcements as the club continues its promotion push from the National League North. The Linnets tried to sign striker Connor Woods from Warrington Town this week but missed out after the frontman decided to remain closer to home by signing for Chester. But Lakeland – yet to sign a player since the new season started back in August – still has other irons in the fire after missing out on the 26-year-old earlier this week.Lakeland said: “I think whenever you go in for any player, you know there’s a reason why you do.”It’s because you want them to come to your club, but sometimes when you speak to people you just feel like it’s maybe not right so you don’t maybe push it as much as you’d want.”The lad is obviously based up that way. Chester’s close, they’re a big club. It’s a safe move for him and we wish him well, but we’ve got other players that we’re looking at and you know he’s not the only one we’ve tried to get and he won’t be the last either.”We’ve been speaking quite a lot myself, the chairman and Joe. “There’s the opportunity there for us if we want to add and that’s what we’ll try to do, but we won’t rush into anything either because it is testament to the hard work we’re putting in the summer and the recruitment that we’ve done that we haven’t brought a single player in this season which is madness really. “That shows that the lads we’ve got, we trust and are growing as a group and as a team that we believe in the players that we’ve got and also that it’s hard for us to find players that are better than some of the ones we’ve got as well.”We’ve only had probably one little period where we’ve been light on numbers and it was no surprise that within that period we lost games at the likes of Chorley, Leamington in the FA Trophy and South Shields.”I will bring in one, maybe two, if I can get the right ones who I think will come in and improve us and help us just give us a little bit of freshness around the place, but right now I’m pleased with what we’ve got. “I think the lads we’ve got have been great but as always, if we can find quality that will that we think will help us kick along a little bit, then we’ll try to do it.”The Linnets moved up to second in the table with goals from Tommy Hughes, Ross Crane and Josh Hmami securing a 3-1 victory over Marine at The Walks this afternoon. And the Lynn boss says he has always had the full backing of chairman Stephen Cleeve during his time at the club.”In fairness, the chairman’s been nothing but supportive of me since I came through the door, you know,” he said. “I think trust is a really important thing in football. Ultimately you’re spending somebody else’s money when you’re trying to bring in players, be it through fees or be it through wages.”I think he’s seen that I can identify a good player and I can build a good team and I can spot the right types of characters that are going to come in and give everything for this football club.”With the kind of progress we’ve made on the pitch and off the pitch, but particularly on the pitch in the last 12 months, then I think we’ve earned that trust.”The time to strengthen if you can is when you’re doing well and we’re currently doing well so we’ll try to strengthen if we can, but equally we won’t just sign or bring players in just for the sake of doing it because that’s never been my style or my approach. “If we can’t find people that we really want and more importantly who really want to come here, then we’ll crack on with what we’ve got and I’m sure we’ll continue to have a very good season.”We are looking and it’s obviously encouraging that the club, the chairman, Joe are prepared to continue supporting us and we’ll see what we can do.”
