West Norfolk athletes were in record-breaking form at the weekend with a handful of members involved in indoor track and field events taking place across the country. The South of England indoor championships had four WNAC athletes in action at Lee Valley, and four new club records were set.Isla Jackson competed in the U17’s Triple jump and achieved a 9.87m personal best, breaking her own club record.Under-15 athlete Elly Jackson was also triple jumping. It was her debut in this event and achieved a 7.89m jump. A new club record and first event as a U15.Under-17 hurdler Rebecca Johnson has moved up an age group after a barnstorming season last year as a U15.Johnson ran the 60m hurdles in 9.01sec. The hurdles change distance as the age group changes, so achieving a personal best in her first race with the new challenge is a fantastic result. U17 Charlie Broad won gold in the shot put with a 15.84m put. This was a new personal best and county record and leaves Charlie at number two in the UK in that age group for 2025 so far!Thomas Green represented the club at the Loughborough Indoor Open Meeting in the U17 men’s 60m sprint. He achieved a new personal best of 7.91sec and finished 2nd in his first heat and then pulled out another personal best of 7.89sec to finish second in the final heat. Senior shot putter Alfie Williams also competed in the Loughborough Open as a pre-competition warm-up before the Welsh Indoor Championships in Cardiff next weekend.Alfie finished second with a 14.30m put. It is early days, but he will sit in the UK 3rd spot for 2025 so far. Meanwhile, at The Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield, senior athlete James Greenhalgh ran a big personal best over the 800m in 1m56.75sec to finish fourth in the final. It’s very early in the indoor season, but already there have been some excellent results from West Norfolk athletes. There is more to come over the coming weeks for sure.
