The wintry weather is casting a shadow over grassroots sport this weekend after wiping out much of last week’s action. With extremely low temperatures predicted in the next couple of days, King’s Lynn Town will be hoping the cold snap doesn’t deny them the chance to consolidate their position in the National League North play-off zone when Oxford City visit the Walks.Last Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Warrington Town was one of the only games to survive the elements.Linnets boss Adam Lakeland was delighted with the three points following his side’s disappointing performance at Scunthorpe United on New Year’s Eve.Lakeland told the club’s official channels: “I think it’s a brilliant result for us.“We knew it was going to make the game that bit more difficult for us, but I thought the players put in a really good performance.“It’s a tough place to come against a team that is fighting at the bottom end of the league, especially off the back of the result that they had on Wednesday against Marine (lost 2-0 at home). “I felt we had control of large parts, probably until they scored. And then you’ve got to give them credit because they made it very difficult for us that last 25 minutes, committed a lot of bodies forward, put a lot of balls into the box and up and around the box and we had to show resilience and grittiness to just come through it, and massive credit to the players for doing that and getting a really important three points for us. “You always anticipate spells away from home in every game that you’re going to come under pressure and the opposition is going to ask questions of you, and it’s about standing up and being gritty and resilient and coming through it and today we have and it’s a very big win for us.”Last weekend also saw the Thurlow Nunn League programme suffer, with Heacham, Downham Town, and Fakenham Town all seeing their games fall by the wayside, while Swaffham Town was without a game in the First Division North.Tomorrow, play-off chasers Downham Town are due to be in home action at the Memorial Field. They will face league leaders Thetford Town in a top-of-the-table clash, while second-placed Fakenham Town entertain Cornard United and Heacham travel to Harleston Town.In the First Division North, relegation-threatened Swaffham Town travel to the Tangerines of Holland, with their Essex hosts sitting mid-table.
