West Norfolk coach Jamie Williamson felt Saturday’s derby win against Wisbech was more about the result than the performance for his high-flying side. The Gatehouse Lane outfit defeated their A47 rivals 18-12 in a tense affair and now head into the festive break with a 10-point lead at the Counties 2 Eastern Counties summit.Williamson said: “We knew what they do well. They use their big runners consistently so we knew that they were going to come and give us a really hard, scrappy game.”Our game plan was to not get sucked in and at times it happened but you saw yourself when we played our game plan we played the ball out wide to our shifty backs in space and that’s where we want to play it every week.”Whether it was the conditions or whether we just got sucked in occasionally, I don’t know, but It was a scrappy game. I think we showed a lot of heart and then dogged it out until the end.”In regards to where Wisbech are in the league, they’ve been docked 10 points but they’re still not a bad team and we still knew that they would be up for this game more than any other game they’ve played this season, so.”With last week in mind, it was just a case of concentrating on today, getting back on track with lots and lots of things. “There’s still stuff to be worked on but we can have a good Christmas and then build on that hopefully in the new year.” West Norfolk’s Hayden Revell registered the first try after a move down the right, which was kept alive by Louis Jones before converting his own score.Wisbech responded with a try of their own through Ethan Garford and Sam Anderson levelled the scores by adding the extras.A mazy 50-yard run from Finlay Wilcox saw him offload to Josh Burgess to restore the home side’s side but Revell put his conversion wide to leave West Norfolk with a 12-7 going into the breakAfter the break, a Revell penalty increased West Norfolk’s lead to eight points but Wisbech refused to lie down and Sam Green reduced the arrears with a second try for the visitors, although Anderson smashed his conversion attempt against the upright.A further penalty from Revell gave West Norfolk a six-point advantage, which they maintained until the final whistle.
