Linnets exit Norfolk Senior Cup with a whimper

King’s Lynn Town U23s exited the Norfolk Senior Cup with a whimper as Wroxham booked their place in the semi-finals with a convincing 5-0 win.The Isthmian League North side proved a cut above Lynn’s young guns with former Linnet Ryan Hawkins netting a brace on a cold night at The Walks.Wroxham took the lead after 13 minutes and it was two ex-Lynn favourites who combined for the opening goal.Veteran midfielder Craig Parker saw his initial shot blocked before the ball ricocheted to Hawkins, who slammed the ball home off the right post of Tyler Key.The visitors bossed possession of the last-eight clash and wasted a couple of half chances to double their early advantage with a couple of dangerous balls into the box.The young Linnets struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the first half with a Jared Lines corner the only notable contribution in the first 45 minutes.Five minutes before the break, Hawkins threaded a first-time ball through to Parker who was thwarted by a comfortable save to his left from Key. It took Wroxham just three minutes to add to their tally at the start of the second half. Hawkins saw his powerful drive brilliantly saved by Key, only for the rebound to fall to Barker who made no mistake with the finish.Things went from bad to worse for Lynn’s youngsters as Barker’s deep cross somehow found a way past Key between the posts.The Lynn goalkeeper then had a rush of blood to the head as he brought down Hawkins in the box and the former Lynn wideman picked himself up to blast home the resulting spot kick as the visitors made it three goals in the space of 13 minutes. The Yachtsmen remained in cruise control and their fifth and final goal arrived five minutes from time as Freddy Lines drilled the ball under the body of the home goalkeeper.It took Lynn 89 minutes to trouble visiting goalkeeper Ollie Sutton who saved well with his feet to deny James Stainsby.King’s Lynn Town U23s: Key, Smith, Hart, Howe, Johnson, Falcao, Lines, Mann, Stainsby, Lambert, Whiteley.
