Heacham and Fakenham both picked up a point in their respective Thurlow Nunn Premier Division games yesterday.Jake Watts was on target twice as league leaders Fakenham were held to a 2-2 by Soham Town Rangers and Julius Martin Lane.Ghosts boss Alex Walpole said: “We are disappointed with the result, it’s definitely two points dropped.”At 2-1, we were in control, but an inexcusable mistake led to us leaving Soham with one point instead of three.”We controlled the ball in the first half but came undone through a set piece.”We asked for more of the same but with a bit more tempo. In the first 30 minutes of the second half, we were brilliant. Wattsy got two goals, and if it wasn’t for an inspired performance from the Soham keeper he could have had four.” Watts now has 30 goals for the season in all competitions. “I’m more than pleased for him, admitted Walpole. He’s been a mate for several years, and it’s always good to see your mates do well.”Heacham, meanwhile, produced another excellent display as they Held Mulbarton Wanderers to a goalless draw at Station Road.It was the Magpies’ second successive goalless draw at home against sides in the top five of the table. The home side had striker Sam Mulready in their line-up with the former King’s Lynn frontman arriving at the club on a month’s loan from Mildenhall Town. Heacham boss Paul Hunt said: “It was a good team performance against a good Mulbarton side. A strong wind down the pitch made it difficult, but the lads played the conditions well. We reduced them to long-range efforts and crosses which we dealt with well.”In the last 15 minutes, the wind and rain were driving into our goal but the team stayed strong and defended excellently. “We also had a strong penalty appeal turned down in the second half which looked like a clear handball but it was waved away.”I’m really proud of the strong mentality the lads showed for the whole game and especially the last 15 minutes.”Downham Town were without a game in the Premier Division but are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Ely City in the League Challenge Cup.
