Jacob holds his own on club debut

Youngsters from West Norfolk Athletic Club were back in action at the Sportshall Norfolk League.West Norfolk had 11 athletes able to make it on the day, with a few absences from injury or the inevitable autumn illnesses.The U11 boys saw the debut of Jacob Green, arguably the youngest competitor on the day but held his own against those much older in his category.Green achieved sub-30 seconds on the two-lap with 29.8 and had his best position in the foam javelin with a throw of 10m for 11th and ran some brilliant relays.James Watts had convincing wins in both the two-lap (26 dead) and four-lap, with second places on both chest push and speed bounce (42 bounces).Arthur Hollingsworth had an impressive hurdle race with 30.4 and made his debut in vertical jump with 28 as well as some speedy relay legs.The boys couldn’t possibly have scored full points on the day with three athletes but did well to finish seventh with 261 points. The U11 girls were also down to three but gave it their best. Kacey Gray again threw very well in the chest push for sixth place with 4.75m and had a great run in the two-lap with 28.1 and the two-lap hurdles with 8th place in 31 seconds.Teagan Thorne jumped well again with 4.20 in the quite difficult event of standing triple jump for seventh and had a really good vertical jump of 32cm.Jess Watts was second in the four lap with a fast 58.3 and did 42 speed bounces to match her brother for fourth place in that event. The girls battled hard in the relays with some fantastic baton changes and finished an impressive sixth on the day with 241 points, again not being able to score full points.The U13 boys were again able to field a full team which produced a fantastic third place on the day with 371 points. Luke Anderson took first place in both four-lap and six-lap (82.6) and also took the win in the shot with a massive PB of 8m25.Wilf Gosnell also threw a shot PB of 5m63 and was second in the speedbounce with a big 73 jumps, also a PB. Matas Petreikis continued his jumping winning streak with first in both long jump and vertical jump with 2.22m and 56cm respectively, both PBs, as well as a fast four-lap.Samuel Howard placed high in the LJ too with a PB of 1.91 for fifth and had a quick two lap in 26 seconds.Rhys Howard debuted in the triple jump with 4.90 for eighth place and had a brilliant four-lap of 63 seconds.The boys did some rapid relays with a third place in both. Aidan Howard represented the U15 boys but due to injury just took part in the shot put, but made it count with a PB of 7.10.He also helped officiate throughout the day which enabled the event to go ahead.Anya Faithorn was back in action for the U15 girls and repeated her first round performance with fifth overall – again in a large field so a great result.Her highest points were achieved in the two-lap and LJ with fifth in both and 24.5 seconds and 2.05m respectively. She had a big jump of 50cm for sixth in the vertical jump and did 75-speed bounces.A great performance across all of her events. The final league round is on November 30 at Lynn where the league awards will be presented before the county championships in January.As ever, the team managers were immensely proud of all the athletes who proved that their attitudes and sportsmanship were top class.
