The King’s Lynn Youth Boxing Academy had a clean sweep of wins for three of its youngsters at different shows across the country.Maximus Emmerson, 15, Harrison Booth, 11, and Peter McGregor all stepped into the ring over the weekend, supported by coaches Richard Girdlestone, Mel Payne, Dave Butcher, Tim Ellis and Ryan Finch.First up was Emmerson, who boxed Bobby Morgan, from Rayleigh, in Essex in what was his first-ever contest. The Lynn youngster took good control from the opening round, giving Bobby a standing count.Emmerson displayed fast hands until the end of the contest, picking up a win by unanimous decision. The second boxer in action was Booth, who faced Brentwood’s Charlie Watkins from Brentwood.Booth came out very fast from the opening bell, forcing his opponent back to the ropes and scoring with ease. He continued his impressive display in the second round, getting into a faster rhythm and landing shots from all directions his opponent struggled to deal with. Booth’s dominance resulted in two counts for Watkins in the second round before the bout was stopped by the referee.Booth is a talented lad with a bright future in the sport. The third fighter out was McGregor, who fought Harlow’s Max Wilson. Both boys came out strong in the opening round and the Essex fighter just about shaded a very close opening round. The second round was different after McGregor took on board his coach’s instructions and found his range, scoring well with both hands and forcing his opponent to miss.McGregor – a very fit lad – continued to land the better shots on target and got the verdict with a split decision, which his corner felt was well deserved. All three boxers put in a lot of time and hard work, but the results prove that hard work pays off.
