Pelicans’ remarkable start to life in the East Premier Division continued as they recorded a stunning victory over Bedford – a side who were relegated from the national league last season.A goalless first half followed but it was one that the Pelicans had to dig in.The home side had the better chances and forced a good number of short corners in the first 35 minutes, as well as forcing some openings from open open play but Pelicans stood firm and soaked up a lot of pressure.Ian Simons, Jason Esser, Iain Page and Sam Major were solid at the back all afternoon, Dan Upton in goal had a fabulous 70 minutes marshalling his side but also pulled off some superb saves throughout. They were also driven on by their midfield of Kirwin Christoffels, Sam Landles, Ollie Booth, Jack Major and Sam Phillips.Pelicans were always a threat on the break and looked to exploit this at every available opportunity and they did early in the second half.Their forwards of Toby Phillips, George Van Aalst, Miles Doncaster and Jacob Craig were always an outlet higher up the pitch and proved to be a real thorn in the side of their hosts. Pelicans won a short corner of their own and a clever routine led by their talismanic skipper Phillips led to him opening the scoring. Bedford got themselves level soon after from the penalty spot before Pelicans again took the lead, a short corner won by a driving run by Christoffels was converted by Phillips for his second but yet again Bedford levelled through a short corner of their own.In all honesty, a point would have been a fair result but in the final seconds of the game Major had a shot which was heading for goal, a deflection took the sting out of it but it was Van Aalst who reacted quickest to score the winner. The final whistle blew immediately afterwards and Pelicans secured one of their most famous victories in recent years after a superb team performance. The league takes a break for a week but Pelicans will be looking to stay unbeaten as they host Broxbourne, at home, on November 2 (3pm).Pelicans MoM sponsored by 4Way: Kirwin Christoffels
