Racing was abandoned at Fakenham’s first jumps meeting of the season on Friday after just one race, writes Jim Harding. The Tapping House Hospice Raceday was abandoned following an inspection of the track after the opening race, during which two riders were unseated and a third fell.Jockeys had complained that the surface was slippery and dangerous. The stewards inspected the course, after which chief executive David Hunter announced to the crowd that the remainder of the meeting would be abandoned.“No-one is more disappointed and gutted than I am,” he said, confirming that the opinion of the jockeys was paramount in making the decision. The next meeting at Fakenham – the Greene King Raceday – is on Wednesday, October 30. Mr Hunter informed racegoers that if they held on to their entrance tickets these would be accepted at this meeting.
