The biggest Ryston Runners turnout at the weekend was at Sandringham where about 30 of the club’s runners were among the 1600 competing on the roadways and trails of the estate over 5k or 10K.The first home for the club over the longer distance was Dylan Whitehouse in third place overall and second SM with 37:39.Two more Ryston senior men were placed in the top 20 with sub-40-minute times: Joe Scott, 11th/8th in 38:52, and Ben Keeley 16th/12th with 39:48.Aimee Shaw was first in the SF category, in 24th place overall, with 41:11, while four more members claimed third places in their respective categories: Jake Whitehouse M55, 55th/43:42; Julie Williamson F40, 121st/46:14; Kevin Howlett M65, 179th/48:09; and Lynne Howlett F65, 504th/56:59.Howlett’s performance came a week after she finished in the same category position in the Marriott’s Way 10k, which she completed in 58:36.There was a little ripple of recognition among some of the club’s ranks when they saw that the second place overall in the race was earned by an F40 with a familiar name from its history, as Marie Duhig (née French) burned her way around the course to record a rather impressive sub-37-minute time.In the 5k race, James Ord finished third, and first M40, in 19:05, while his daughter Olivia, still a junior but categorised as SF in this race, was placed fifth in that category in 24:05 (27th overall). The full Ryston line-up, exclusive of those already mentioned was: 5k – 71st Claire Chamberlain SF 29:46; 111 Sophie Williamson SF 32:54; Amia Sunday SF 36:08. 10K – 60 Ian Milburn SM 43:49; 102 Max Dinmore SM 45:39; 149 Shaun Hamer M40 47:13; 157 Chris Hurley M40 47:27; 170 Carl Pickett M55 47:53; 193 James Frusher SM 48:48; 245 Lucy McDowie F45 56:22; 637 Jacqui Scott F50 59:20; 652 Claire Whitehouse F40 5M65 80:469:51; 1012 Kellie StevensSF 68:45; 1120 Martin Elsegood. The final race of 2024, the Bure Valley 10 miles, saw four Ryston Runners consolidating their final series positions. The most notable achievement came from Linda Marshall who was placed second in the F55 category and 122nd overall out of 280, with 79:01.Gareth Hunt took the honours as the first Ryston across the line, in 69:41/20thSM, with Christopher Cann not too far behind him, 24th in the same category/67th overall, in 71:35. James Trim completed the Ryston quartet in 160th place /39th SM, in a time of 83:31.All four athletes did the club proud throughout the series.
