King’s Lynn Town boss Adam Lakeland says the FA Cup win against Cheshunt was a learning curve for summer signing Tom Wilson.Wilson was handed his first full start against the Ambers after missing much of pre-season and the early weeks of Lynn’s National League North campaign with an injury. When asked about the former Sheffield United youngster’s debut, Lakeland said: “I thought he was poor in the first half and he got told that at half-time.”And the most pleasing thing for me is that he reacted to it and I thought he was superb in the second.”It’s funny because a lot of people have said to me they think he should be playing.”He’s missed all pre-season and I doubt anybody has seen him play before bar maybe one or two pre-season games and I doubt anybody even knew Tom Wilson was before we signed him.”He’s a good player and we know he’s a good player and he’s going to be important for us this season.” Lakeland added: “He showed in the second half exactly what he’s all about. He was aggressive, strong, wants to go on and dominate and win his headers but he is competent with his feet as well. “He can step in, he can play and can knock a diagonal ball and he’s a belting lad, you know.”Yes he had a little bit of a wobble and he’s got to learn from that because every player at every level makes the odd mistake or bad decision.”But what the better players do is they don’t allow it to affect them in next 20-30 minutes because if we’re playing against a better level of opponent and, no disrespect to Chesham, then we get severely punished in that first half and then we’ve got a mountain to climb. “Tom’s just got to learn that if he makes a poor decision or a bad pass it’s fine and it’s the same for the players at the top levels as well.”It shouldn’t take me getting into him for him to play how I know he can play, but I thought second off he was super and hopefully we’ll see more of that when he’s on the pitch again.” The Linnets are back in National League North action when they travel to Hereford on Saturday.Striker Jonny Margetts is expected to feature against the Bulls after sitting out last weekend’s FA Cup victory at the Walks.
