Debutant on target as Downham Town pick up fourth straight win

Downham Town picked up their fourth successive league win as they continued their climb up the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table this afternoon.Dale Stokes’ side had Rudy De Rocha and debutant Harley Murkin – signed from near-neighbours Wisbech Town – on target as they defeated Stowmarket Town 2-0 at the Memorial Field.After the game, the club took to X to say: “Solid home performance in a game we controlled throughout. We had chances to make it more comfortable but a well-deserved three points and a debut goal for young forward Murkin.”Next up for Downham is a trip to St Neots in the FA Vase on Saturday.Heacham ended a run of three straight league losses with an excellent home point against Yarmouth Town.Nathan Davies put the Magpies ahead early in the second half before Jesse Fenn headed home a free-kick two minutes from time to earn the Bloaters a point.Heacham travel to Dereham Town in the league on Tuesday night before turning their attention to the FA Vase when they travel to Harleston next Saturday. Wins for Walsham le Willows and Thetford Town saw Fakenham Town knocked off the top of the table despite the Ghosts picking up a point from a 2-2 draw at Lakenheath on Friday night. Jake Watts netted his 12th goal of the campaign to put the visitors in front midway through the half only for Lakenheath to level the scores seven minutes later.A composed finish from Luke Middleton restored Fakenham’s advantage before an injury-time leveller earned the home side a late share of the spoils.Next weekend, the Ghosts travel to league leaders Walsham le Willows in a top-of-the-table clash. In the First Division North, Swaffham Town remain rooted to the bottom of the table following a 3-0 home defeat to Holland.Goals from Tom Lewis, Ronnie Willis and new signing Dan Titilola secured a comfortable three points for the visitors at the Uncle Luke’s Stadium.Next weekend the Pedlars are in cup action when they make the short trip to Premier Division Thetford in the next round of the FA Vase.
