A Lynn-based cycling club has benefitted to the tune of £1,000 thanks to a leading coffeehouse chain.Costa Coffee has donated to Velouse Flyers as part of its Community Grants programme. This demonstrates the nation’s favourite coffee shop’s commitment to helping make a difference in the communities around its stores.Costa Coffee is supporting local sports clubs up and down the country, investing in the sporting talent of the future. So far this year, the chain has donated a total of £50,000 to 50 sporting community groups and charities.Celebrating ten years of its Community Programme, which has included supporting charity collaborations, volunteering, and use of space in the store for local activities, Costa Coffee created the Community Grants programme in 2021, in collaboration with Charities Trust. The Community Grants Programme helps to empower Costa Coffee team members to nominate deserving causes in their region. This year, the donation has been increased from £500 to a generous £1,000 to help make an even greater impact in communities across the country. Velouse Flyers is a cycling club which has been operating in West Norfolk for five years, with more than 100 active members – of which 30 per cent are juniors. They are especially passionate about developing the next generation of cyclists, and for this reason, will be dedicating their £1,000 grant to supporting their junior team.Maciej Malyszka, cycling coach at Velouse Flyers, said: “The donation from Costa Coffee will help us to provide our junior members with new equipment, floodlighting and access to British Cycling coaching courses. “We’re pleased to receive the grant, which supports the work that our dedicated volunteer coaches and committee do to inspire young people to enjoy cycling.”This latest round of donations brings the coffee giants’ total contributions through its Community Grants programme over the past three years to nearly £180,000 – a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community enrichment. Jo Jennings, Community Co-ordinator at Costa Coffee, concluded: “We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the incredible work being done by the Velouse Flyers.”At Costa Coffee, we recognise the dedication and passion that sports clubs bring to their local areas, and we are proud to be extending a helping hand to sporting groups across the nation through our Community Grants programme.”For more information on Costa Coffee’s community programme, visit: https://www.costa.co.uk/sustainability/communities
