Karting ace Jenson Sayell drove his Intermax kart to victory in five of the six races at the weekend to win the 2024 Super One Championship in style. The Marshland St James youngster had not been to the Shenington track since winning the Micromax Super One Championship there last year. But he produced a near-faultless two rounds of driving in Oxfordshire to seal the title. When he moved up to the very competitive Intermax Class this season there were no expectations other than learning to drive the new kart and gain experience for next year. However, Sayell won his first heat and was soon taking podiums regularly. After very successful rounds 7 to 10, he led the Championship by just four points going into the last two rounds at the weekend.Saturday’s Round 11 offered a real challenge with very wet tricky conditions and after narrowly securing pole position for the heats he dropped to fourth in Heat One and was unable to move any higher. Heat Two, however, saw the youngster take the lead from pole, resisting a last-lap challenge to win by just 0.07 seconds. Sayell qualified second for the bigger points final. He dropped to fourth on the start but was back up to second by lap eight and with three consecutive fastest laps was right behind the leader going into the last lap.He switched to the inside exiting the Stratford hairpin to take the lead and the win half a lap later for the top step of the podium. With his nearest rival finishing further down the grid in all three races, the West Norfolk speedster was assured the championship provided he finished each of Round 12s races.Qualifying again in pole position, he took a lights-to-flag victory in both heats by a convincing margin, qualifying in pole for the Final. Sayell made a good start but former rival Plowman pressured him to the flag, with the two trading fastest laps pulling well clear of the rest of the field for a thrilling race. But he maintained his composure for win number 13 in the competition to secure his championship in style. The team were thrilled with the outcome.Dad Rob said: “We are so pleased for Jenson to win SuperOne again, going into the weekend with a new kart frame I was hoping we had improved some handling issues from the last round and was pleased to find it had.”Jenson was calm all weekend and handled the pressure well. What a season he has had.”Sayell’s driver coach Gaby of GW Driver Development added: “I was so impressed with the efforts this weekend, kept cool calm and collected throughout. I couldn’t ask for anything more.” Sayell thanks everyone who has helped him achieve this Super One Championship including his family, his team TWR, GW Driver Development, Force Motorsport for the engine power, Infinity X Starlaneuk Motorsport for set-up support and Synergy Direct for a great chassis.Plus all his sponsors without whom his success would not have been possible. These are VROOAM, Prestige Designs, Chris Phillips and local companies JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean, and Professional Aesthetic Enhancements King,s Lynn. The youngster’s next outing will be for Round 7 of the Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship at Kimbolton on what will be his 11th birthday weekend.Jenson Sayell Motorsport can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.
