King’s Lynn produced a solid team showing as they saw off champions Sheffield for the third time this season with a 48-42 win on Thursday night. It was a fourth straight win in the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership for the PSH Environmental Stars who prevailed in a last heat decider, which included current World No.4 Jack Holder.Captain Niels-Kristian Iversen got the better of the Aussie to lead a shared race in the opener before reserve duo Anders Rowe and Lewis Kerr moved the Stars ahead with a 5-1 in Heat Two.Guest pair Ben Cook and Connor Mountain then chipped in with a 4-2 to move 12-6 in front. The visitors then began to show some form with some smart opening laps to edge ahead by two come the end of Heat Seven – but the Stars refused to lie down. After a tricky first two rides, Jan Kvech won Heat Eight as Rider Replacement and he was partnered by Rowe as the hosts regained the lead.Cook and Mountain then had to settle in behind Jack Holder in Heat Nine before Cook and Kvech rode a solid first lap in the tenth to help them pull away to another 5-1 and restore their six-point advantage. Jack Holder won two of the next three races and teamed up with older brother Chris for a 5-1 in Heat 12 to reduce the gap back down to two. And the Stars looked on the verge of victory when Kerr and Mountain gated on a 5-1 in Heat 14.But whilst Kerr was away and gone, former King’s Lynn racer Josh Pickering charged his way around Mountain on lap three to take things down to the wire. After some slight movement from Iversen in the initial staging, he and Cook jumped out of the traps superbly in the re-run. And whilst Iversen was passed by Jack Holder for second, Cook held on for his third win of the night to keep the ball rolling for the Stars.Team Manager Rob Lyon said: “Again, it was a great team performance. “The boys put in a shift and pulled off another one against another play-off team which is great.“Ben is a great little rider, he’s improving all the time and he’s got a big future in the sport. “It was a great performance from him, he sort of led the way really with Jan struggling a little bit with his arm but he still had some important rides for us and Niels played a captain’s role once again.”The Stars now have two fixtures remaining against the league’s most in-form side Leicester with their final outing this year at the Adrian Flux Arena this coming Monday (September 2, 7.30pm).King’s Lynn 48: Ben Cook 14, Niels-Kristian Iversen 11+1, Jan Kvech 7+2, Anders Rowe 7+1, Lewis Kerr 6+2, Connor Mountain 3+1, Benjamin Basso R/R.Sheffield 42: Jack Holder 18+1, Chris Holder 11, Josh Pickering 7, Kyle Howarth 3+1, Jason Edwards 3+1, Joe Thompson 0, Tai Woffinden R/R.Sheffield win the aggregate point 100-79.
