King’s Lynn Town have completed the signing of a former Norwich City youngster. The Linnets have snapped up the services of Finlay Barnes, who was released by National League York City in the summer.Lynn manager Adam Lakeland said: “I’m delighted to get Fin in the building. He’s a player we’ve liked for some time and did attempt to sign him in the off-season, so to now get him on board is a real positive and he makes the group even stronger.”He’s a creative player who is strong in one-versus-one situations, can go past people and is a real threat in the final third.”I’m sure he will be someone the supporters enjoy watching and I look forward to him playing”.Barnes, who arrives at the Walks from Braintree Town, said “I’m really happy and excited to join, get minutes and enjoy my football down at The Walks.”The 23-year-old joined York City in July 2023 from Suffolk-based outfit Leiston. Barnes featured six times for the Minstermen, making his debut off the bench against Hartlepool in January 2024. Loan spells away at Darlington and Scarborough Athletic took up most of the creative midfielder’s playing season. He featured six times for Quakers, netting twice, before going on to feature 21 times at Seadogs, scoring four. The former Norwich City youth player plays largely from the left-hand side of midfield, but can also play more centrally. After initially signing for Step 5 side Norwich United upon his Canaries exit, Barnes earned a move up the leagues with Leiston for the 2020/21 campaign.Barnes has hit double figures from midfield for Leiston, scoring a total of 35 in 117 games in all competitions.
