Downham Stow Ladies have completed a treble. The club completed a superb season by emerging as winners of the Hundred West Norfolk Softball League, the Norfolk Shell Hardball League (group A) and were the overall Norfolk winners of the Hundred Softball Cup.This is a fantastic achievement for a ladies section in their third season and fielding over 20 players aged from 13-50 years. The team played their last softball game of the season on Tuesday evening with a narrow two-run defeat to North Runcton. The game was played in great spirit with the sun setting over the new all-weather net facility at Stow Hall.DSCC unfortunately lost the toss and were put into bat.Despite getting off to a great start with the first pair scoring 20 off their 20 balls the wickets started to tumble. Freya Matthews and Molly Hewitt started the rebuild and the final pairing of Esther Broad and Molly Pybus enabled DSCC to reach a competitive target of 266 on a very large boundary. The DSCC bowling was very accurate and North Runcton were restricted well at the start.Their in-form batsmen then came in to bat and scored several boundaries which soon pushed the total up.Despite strong fielding and wickets bowled by Louise Page and Molly Pybus North Runcton reached their target in the final over. The new net facility at the club will be a game changer for the ladies, enabling training to go ahead even when the season is over. Anyone interested in joining the girls for winter training or next season can email the club at downhamstowcc@gmail.com. All ages and abilities are very welcome.Downham Stow Ladies thank sponsors Hart Farms and The Downham Tandoori. The all-weather net facility was made possible by the support of the Norfolk Community Foundation through the West Norfolk Rural Community Capital Grants Fund.
