King’s Lynn Town suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Peterborough Sports as their unbeaten home record was ended in front of a bumper bank holiday crowd.Lynn looked out of sorts as Dan Jarvis scored twice in front of a gate of 1380 before Jonathan Margetts netted a late reply for the hosts.Sports triumphed by the same scoreline in Lynn’s final home game last season and this afternoon’s win saw them become the first team to taste success at the Walks this term.Linnets boss Adam Lakeland was forced into one change from the side that won 1-0 at Marine on Saturday with Josh Coulson coming in for Ross Crane, who picked up a knock on Merseyside.Peterborough Sports arrived at the Walks with three former Linnets in their squad.Surprisingly, striker Michael Gash, who netted the winner in the corresponding fixture last season, started in the heart of the visitors’ defence alongside Ryan Fryatt while Michael Gyasi was named on the bench. It took the visitors just three minutes to take the lead as Lynn paid the price for a slow start. Oisin Gallagher found Dan Jarvis in acres of space out on the left and the forward struck a brilliant left-footed volley past the despairing dive of Paul Jones. Lynn were caught out down the left side again a few minutes later and Jones was at full stretch to keep out an effort from Eliot Putman.Josh Hmami pulled the strings in the centre of the pitch and it was the midfielder who created Lynn’s first attempt of the match in the 20th minute as he fired over from 25 yards.A long throw from Freddie Sass caused panic in the Peterborough ranks and Gold Omotayo was inches away from heading the hosts back on level terms after 27 minutes. Lynn continued to play the better football but Sports dug in for the remainder of the half to keep their lead intact going into the break. The home side replaced Dylan Crowe with Tommy Hughes for the start of the second half and immediately Lynn had an extra spring in their step. But they were caught by a real sucker punch seven minutes after the restart as they relinquished possession on the edge of the box and Dion Sembie-Ferris picked out Jarvis to score his second goal of the game.Lynn almost pulled a goal back three minutes later through Freddie Sass whose long-range effort came back off the woodwork. It was Hmami who squandered a huge opportunity for Lynn to get back into the game, the midfielder missing the target from eight yards after being played in by Hughes. The home side missed the energy and industry of Crane but finally found a way through a stubborn Sports rearguard when Margetts converted a late knockdown from substitute Bartosz Cybulski with eight minutes left on the clock.King’s Lynn Town: Jones, Sass, McFadden, Taylor, Coulson (Wilson 70), Crowe (Hughes 46), Johnson, McCammon (Walker 78), Hmami, Omotayo (Cybulski 65), Margetts.
