King’s Lynn boss Adam Lakeland believes his strikers make them a team to be wary of.Gold Omotayo and Jonny Margetts both scored as the Linnets beat Rushall Olympic 2-1 at home in National League North on Tuesday night. It was the first time they’ve lined up together, with Margetts available after suspension.Omotayo, who rejoined the club this summer after leaving Kidderminster, struck from a corner in the sixth minute and Margetts scored the winner in first-half stoppage time.“I’m sure that’s not going to be the last time this season that we’re going to see Omotayo and Margetts on the scoresheet,” Lakeland told the club’s media team.“We’ve got two proven goalscorers at the top end of the pitch and that should make any opposition be wary of us.“Usually, as a team, they do say you’re only as good as your strikers, so we’ve got two proven goalscorers there. “I felt there were times they could have been better but they’ve scored two goals, one each, we’ve won the game 2-1 and they’ve done their job so I’m pleased for them both.” Margetts cut a frustrated figure sitting out the opening two games due to a ban carried over from last season. He was eager to return and made his presence felt with the goal that secured the Linnets’ second win of the season.“He’s a goalscorer and he proved that when he came in January,” said Lakeland. “He scored some vital goals for us but I’ve said previously it’s not just his goals.“He works hard, he’s got a bit of Yorkshire grit in him, he demands of himself and his team-mates, he leads by example through his work rate and the way he is round the training ground day to day. “He’s just a top lad and top goalscorer.“We’ve got to remember Gold as well. “He’s only been back with us three games and we’re still learning to maximise his attributes but I think there’s more to come from Gold, the more we have him with us and we work with him but he’s got two in his first three games.“Continue that through the season and both he and the team will have a good one.”Omotayo initially struggled at King’s Lynn after joining from Wrexham three years ago.A change of manager transformed his fortunes after Tommy Widdrington succeeded Ian Culverhouse and Lakeland is determined to get the best out of him. “Like any player, you’ve got to play to their strengths,” said Lakeland.“You’ve got to understand what they’re good at and maybe not so good at and try and play to the strengths potentially as much as you can. That’s what we trying to do.“We’ve still got to keep working to develop that and the players around him understand it but I’m not really bothered about what’s gone on with him in the past, I’m bothered about now.“What I’d also add to that is usually when players get older they mature, they start to understand themselves and what their strengths are. “So maybe, as he’s had his spell here under Tommy and did so well, and then gone away and come back, he’s started to understand his game a little bit more and hopefully that will only benefit us for the rest of the season.”King’s Lynn are at league new boys Marine on Saturday, followed by a home match against Peterborough Sports on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3pm).They’ll travel up to Merseyside today (Friday) for an overnight stay before taking on Marine.Lakeland said: “Any time you go up to the Liverpool teams it’s going to be tough. “They’re a newly promoted team so we expect a tough game.“Every game’s a big game because you want to win it, so we’ll show Marine as much respect as we do every other opponent.“We do our due diligence on everybody and we’ll go there obviously looking to win the game.”
