Former Lynn rider on the podium at British GP

Former King’s Lynn rider Robert Lambert was back on the podium at the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain on Saturday.Lambert completed a historic British one-two at Principality Stadium on Saturday as he followed the eventual winner Dan Bewley over the line in Cardiff.Lambert claimed the runner-up position, earning him 18 points to storm from fifth to second place in the championship standings – only 21 behind current leader, Bartosz Zmarzlik of Poland with four rounds to race.The British one-two comes just over a month after Bewley and Lambert joined forces to win their second FIM Speedway of Nations world team title in three years at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium on July 13.Second-placed Lambert admits a bout of food poisoning nearly put his hopes of Cardiff success in jeopardy – until a steak dinner came to the rescue.The Norfolk-based rider said: “I was a bit worried after Friday. I couldn’t hold on for the two practice runs. I had food poisoning on Wednesday, so I was a bit under-par and slowly trying to build my energy up over the past couple of days.“After my second run on Friday, I was trying to think of some ways to pick up my energy levels. I had a big piece of steak last night and I think that did it, along with a good night’s sleep.” On Thursday night, Lambert’s former side paid the price for a nightmare start as they went down 54-36 at Oxford in the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership on Thursday. The result officially ended any mathematical chances the Stars had of reaching the play-offs, ahead of their visit to Birmingham last night.The PSH Environmental Stars were blown away inside a disastrous first five races at Cowley in which they conceded four 5-1s and a 4-2 with guest Norick Blodorn the only visiting rider to defeat a member of the home team.But they did regroup, especially after a lengthy delay caused by rain, and captain Niels-Kristian Iversen again rolled back the years with a high-quality performance. Iversen retired from the lead in Heat 1 but after being on the receiving end of a 5-1 in Heat 4, he scored 13 points from his next five rides in a terrific individual display.Stars manager Rob Lyon said: “It was a terrible start, an awful start. The track was patchy, and obviously the rain was pretty persistent. “Luckily it stopped, and the track staff got on the track and made it a lot better for the second half of the meeting, which we drew if you want to look at it like that.“That was better because it was getting a little embarrassing initially. We pulled it back a little bit, and with the depleted team we had it was probably a result we expected. “Niels has been riding well for the last few weeks.
