King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon admits the club’s current situation follows the pattern of a new problem emerging just as an old one appears to be fixed. After an encouraging spell earlier in the summer, the Stars’ play-off aspirations have effectively been shattered by a series of rider absences and serious injuries.Three members of their original team – Vadim Tarasenko, Tobiasz Musielak and now Benjamin Basso – have been hit by UK suspensions issued by the Speedway Control Bureau for ‘withholding their services.’The former two walked out on the club for reasons which at least in Tarasenko’s case were never satisfactorily explained by the rider, and whilst Musielak pointed to the need to manage his injury by competing only in Poland, rumours that he was looking to race elsewhere in the Premiership were never far away.Basso’s position is slightly different in that his commitment to King’s Lynn when racing has not been in question – but the authorities do take a dim view of riders appearing in foreign leagues but not making it back for their UK fixtures, as was case this week when the Dane didn’t race at Belle Vue.Lyon said: “There’s a lot of problems which need sorting out, but we are where we are at the minute.”We’ve got to deal with what we’ve got in front of us, and hopefully put on a good show in our remaining meetings. “When we’ve managed to get some good boys in (as guests) we’ve shown what we’re able to do, and when we’ve had a full team or nearly a full team we’re a match for anybody really. “That’s the frustrating part, and the big problem came when we had the ‘no facility’ for Musielak and could only use guests up to 75 per cent of his average.”At least by bringing in Lewi (Kerr) it got us back to a similar sort of configuration to how we started because you can look at it as (Jan) Kvech replacing Musielak at No.1.”But of course when we were talking to Lewi, we were expecting Nicolai (Klindt) and Benjamin to be ready to come back as well, and then that didn’t happen.” Assuming the Stars’ remaining matches run according to schedule, Basso’s 28-day ban rules him out of the remainder of their Premiership campaign, which continues at Birmingham on Monday.Klindt had been hopeful of a return from his neck injury this week, but that was put on hold after consultation, and it will now be a race against time if he is to make it back on track in the next three weeks.
