Ten runners from Terrington St Clement Running Club entered the Run Sandringham 24 event, held on the Royal estate at the weekend.Running a five-mile course through the Sandringham Estate and surrounding trails, runners aimed to complete as many laps as possible within 24 hours, starting at noon on Saturday and finishing at noon on Sunday. Before the main event, Dylan and Finley Whitehouse, joined other young runners over a one-mile course, with Dylan leading the way to the finish line in 5m 25s.Jake Whitehouse entered the solo endurance event for the second time and, despite suffering from some after-effects of a recent bout of Covid, he completed 16 laps to cover a total of 80 miles. This was five miles further than he achieved at his debut event last year.Nine runners from the club formed a mixed team to compete in the large team event. The team members took turns to run three laps within the 24 hours, a total of 15 miles each. There were great performances throughout the team as a number of the team overcame falls and injuries to finish ahead of their target times. Being ahead of the target enabled an additional lap to be fitted in before the cut-off time and the whole team joined the final runnerto cross the finish line of the final lap.The team finished sixth out of nine large teams. One of the runners, Holl Little, said, “Our team were amazing and completed a total of 28 laps, totalling 140 miles. There was someone from our team on the course throughout the whole 24 hours”.The nine runners in the team were Claire Whitehouse, Adrian Pepper, Alan Bartrum, Catherine Swann, Helen Garrett, Holl Little, Jo Bartrum, Linda Pepper, and Mark Garrett. The event encouraged great teamwork among the varied mix of runners in the team. The club found this to be a really enjoyable event, with lots of camaraderie amongst fellow runners and support from other club runners, family and friends. Holl said, “What a fantastic weekend we had, lots of running, fuelled by lots of cups of tea, coffee and cake”.It was agreed that the club’s motto – Run, Cake, Sleep, Repeat – was appropriate for the weekend.
