The King’s Lynn Stars have been hit by a fresh suspension with Benjamin Basso being handed a 28-day ban by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB).Speedway chiefs have suspended the Dane after he chose not to ride for the Stars at Belle Vue on Monday night, despite competing for Polish League outfit Lodz 24 hours earlier.Lynn suffered a similar incident earlier in the season after Pole Tobiasz Musielak controversially quit the club. The 30-year-old claimed he was not fit to race in England – although he opted to continue competing in his home country. It is another blow for the Adrian Flux Arena side in a season beset by injuries and Bsso’s season in the UK is now over as a result.A statement from the SCB read: “The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB ) were informed on Saturday, August 10, that King’s Lynn rider Benjamin Basso had informed the club that despite representing his Polish League Club Lodz on August 11 he would not be returning back to the UK for the King’s Lynn fixture at Belle Vue on Monday, August 12, due to still suffering from a shoulder injury.”Although the SCB does not wish to force riders to compete when not fully fit there are regulations in place to protect clubs from having riders select which fixtures they choose to compete in or not. “Therefore, as Mr Basso has chosen not to return back to the UK to represent his British club although still competing in Europe this has breached SCB Regulation – 017.2 i) Failure to attend a meeting duly listed on the Official Fixture List. “Due to this breach, Mr Basso’s SCB Registration will be suspended for 28 days as of August 12.”King’s Lynn Speedway will receive a facility for the same period 28 days, which will end on September 9.”
