Fakenham Town maintained their 100 per cent to the Thurlow Nunn League season this afternoon while there were defeats for both Downham Town and Swaffham Town. The Ghosts made it two wins in as many games at home with a convincing 4-0 home victory over Stowmarket Town while Downham Town were beaten 4-2 at Woodbridge Town and Swaffham Town lost 1-0 at home to Harwich and Parkeston. There were two goals each for Luke Middleton and Jake Watts as Alex Walpole’s side took their tally of goals to eight in two fixtures at the Daly Group Stadium.Manager Walpole said: “It was an absolute polar opposite performance to last Saturday.”We started the game well and took a deserved lead. From front to back, every one put in a great shift and backed it up with some excellent football.”Wattsy scored another two goals, although he’ll be disappointed not to have more and there were two goals from Luke Middleton on his full debut.”The back line defended well and were supported by the midfield in front of them. We were 2-0 up at half-time, and controlled the game well in the second half. “A special mention to 16-year-old Dylan Coslett who made his full debut today. Dylan has come through our EJA youth set-up and has impressed us all over pre-season. “It’s important now that we carry this performance over to Ely next Saturday. From the reports I’ve heard, they’re a much better team this season so it’s going to be a tough test.”The Ghosts took the lead in the eighth minute as Middleton cut the ball back for Watts to open the scoring from six yards out.One soon became two in the 26th minute as Middleton capitalised on a goalkeeping error from the visitors. Middleton made it 3-0 11 minutes after the restart as his header went in with the help of the post. The final goal arrived 14 minutes from time after Josh Blower won the ball before feeding Watts for his second of the match. Fakenham Town, who sit second in the early Premier Division standings, travel to Ely City next weekend.Downham Town shipped four goals on their travels on a difficult afternoon for Dale Stokes’ side. Woodbridge scored two goals in the opening 17 minutes to leave Downham Town on the back foot. But they hauled themselves back into the game eight minutes later as Dylan Edge fired home a Daniel Hobbs cross from the left.Visiting Downham enjoyed a good period and were unable to find an equaliser before they were sunk by two goals in seven minutes in the second half.Substitute Brody Warren curled home Downham’s second goal going into injury time. Next weekend, Downham Town are in Preliminary Round FA Cup action against Ipswich Wanderers.Heacham – without a fixture this afternoon – sit 19th in the table while Downham Town prop up the rest of the division having lost both of their opening games. On Tuesday night, Heacham host Dereham Town at Station Road.In the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, Swaffham Town suffered a slender defeat at home to Harwich and Parkeston.
